On our last day before February break, we got our word on marching in our annual Vocabulary Parade. This year's theme was National Parks. We saw flora and fauna from all over the country, plus Ranges and Expeditions and Campers and Birdwatchers and more. Afterwards, we celebrated reading 57,606 chapters during our Snowball Slam with slushies.

Yesterday, a day before Election Day, Carlton's E2 students ran a school-wide election. Students learned about the Electoral College and cast ballots. Hillary Clinton won the election.

Our students had a wonderful time yesterday marching around the block from and to the school. Our youngest students wore their Halloween costumes and our older students really embraced their tradition of wearing crazy hats.

Mrs. Bouffard's P2 art classes have been learning about the tradition of Mexican calaveras in the weeks leading up to Halloween and the Mexican holiday, Dia de los Muertos. Originally the skulls were clay casts, decorated to adorn the graves of relatives. In modern times, it can mean a clay cast or any artistic representation, including the popular edible sugar skulls.

Goodbye Wonderland, welcome to the Jungle. Some of our E2 students spent the morning working backstage on scenery for this year's production of The Jungle Book. Here they are repurposing scene panels to fit in with the jungle.

Thank you to all our families and staff that turned out for last Thursday's Haunted Happenings parade. A special thank you to Mrs. Bouffard for putting together another marvelous float. We are all looking forward to continuing with Camp Carlton for the 2016/2017 school year.

October 5 is International Walk to School Day. The Carlton crew was led by Safe Routes to School coordinator (and Carlton parent), Melissa Wilson and Mayor Driscoll. What a great way to start the school day!
Check out some of our youngest students during last month's Walkathon. Thank you to P1 parent Susannah Bothe for the photos. This year's walkathon has raised nearly $2574 so far! These funds will go to pay for the many wonderful things our PTO does, including busses for field trips and our upcoming family event, Pumpkin Fest. Thank you to all our wonderful walkers and their sponsors. And thank you to the volunteers that spent the morning stamping cards.

9:00-9:45 - Grades 3, 4-5 (E-1 and E-2)
10:00-10:45 – Grades K, 1, 2, (P-1, P-2)
The Fitness for Fitness walkathon will take tomorrow, Friday Sept. 23rd. This PTO sponsored event will help raise money for fitness equipment for our very own fitness program at Carlton School. Students will walk for 45 mintues and receive a stamp for every lap they walk. An energetic student can walk an average of 15-20 laps. Pledges sheets came home last week and pledges can be made per lap or if you would rather not pledge, a donation can be made in any amount. Please contact your student’s teacher if you did not receive a pledge sheet.
We have volunteers signed up, but if you didn't sign up and would like to help, meet up in the lobby after dropoff and we'll see if we can put you to work.
As always, thank you for your continued support.
