Welcome back! I hope everyone enjoyed the week off. We're happy to see everyone back.

We're in the process of pulling together a school directory, which will allow you to keep in touch with other Carlton families. Forms came home recently — if you didn't receive one, put a note in your child's green folder and we'll make sure they get one. Participation is voluntary.                          ---Mrs. Jellison

 Classroom Corner

P2 teachers and staff have been very happy to welcome 16 "P2 newbies" to our classrooms earlier in March!  Each has been a valuable addition to our P2 community.  For this trimester's beginning, we had a busy time getting to know our new groups, re-establishing class routines and expectations and helping our newest members settle in comfortably.  In writing workshop, our young authors have been busy creating realistic fiction books.  We are in the final stages in authoring an original book series.  In reading workshop, we are well into our unit on book series books.  This pairs nicely with our writing workshop unit.  In social studies, we are finishing studying geography.  We would like to continue to encourage our students to practice addition and subtraction mathematics facts at home and to enjoy reading at home each night for about 20 minutes.  Students can take home more Book Logs to fill out whenever they wish.

Calendar Raffle! Our May calendar raffle went home earlier this week. Win all month! Tickets are $10 – get more to buy or sell by sending a note in green folders or stopping by the front office. All proceeds support activities and supplies for Carlton's students, such as field trips, Field Day, and Earth Fest.

Carlton Calendar

Tuesday, May 2: PTO, 6:30 p.m.

Wednesday, May 3: Adaptive Sports Day! Parents are invited to join us from noon – 1 p.m. to participate in activities such as wheelchair basketball, sit-down volleyball, and goal ball. These are sports you might see at the Special Olympics — they help create an equal playing field for everyone involved. Come help us spread awareness of the Special Olympics. This is going to be a blast!

Saturday, May 13: Mark calendars now for the SEF's Education Day at Old Town Hall. Details to follow.

Thursday, May 25, 5-7 p.m.: Earth Fest! Details coming soon.

PTO Notes: We will be electing a new co-president, vice president, and secretary at next week's meeting. If you are interested, please email a letter of intent to current co-presidents Betsy and Amanda at betsy.ricciarelli@gmail.com and amandam978@comcast.net. Terms begin when school resumes in September.
